Plot |
Sean Penn earned an Oscar nomination for his performance in this movie about an educationally subnormal adult engaged in a legal battle over the right to raise his daughter. He plays Sam Dawson, who has the mental age of seven and works in an L.A. branch of a coffee chain. His daughter Lucy (Dakota Fanning) has started to behave badly in school and on investigation the authorities decide that the childlike Sam may not be capable any more of raising her. Sam somehow manages to enlist the legal help of career woman and lawyer Rita Harrison (Michelle Pfeiffer). A tough career woman and lawyer she may be, but she decides to take on Sam's case pro bono... |
