Plot
The messenger must be silenced... Frankie (Arquette) has no cares or worries and certainly no faith in God. All that changes when she begins to suffer the Stigmata - living wounds of the crucified Christ. Father Andrew Kiernan (Bryne) is a Catholic priest/scientist, and is sent by the Vatican to investigate. Several plots then unravel, one which surrounds the attraction between the priest and this woman… The other however is more sinister and it soon becomes apparent someone believes that Frankie could be channelling a message that could destroy the Church - and must be silenced... Not a film recommended for fundamentalist Christians or the strict Catholic community, however, those interested in the mysticism of Christian mythology and enjoy psychological thrillers should enjoy this film. Strong performances by Patricia Arquette and Gabriel Byrne.
